The Campster-Kanchanaburi

Beautiful site with many instagramable spots. We stayed here 3 nights. Staff were very friendly and customer service was amazing. Staff attend to every need (carried luggage to room and to car, offered plates and cutlery when we brought back food, deliver breakfast and meals to rooms, etc.) Owner/manager is very friendly and attentive. (Please tip staff if you can, they deserve it). The site is around 20 minutes from popular restaurants and tourist activities in the area. There is a restaurant menu to order from, lots of Thai dishes but also farang dish such as pasta and steak. Can eat near reception or in front of room, staff will deliver. Very child friendly, there is kayaking available as well as jetski hire and they light a fire around 7pm to do marshmallow roasting. They is a stray dog that the neighbours take care of, very friendly and calm, will come visit guests at night. Overall, amazing stay, will definitely come back again next time 😊.

For the price we paid (about 3,700 baht/night), I expected the place in a much better condition and providing a better service than what we received. The place is in the middle of nowhere, about 20 km out of town and cost quite a lot to stay per night even with a discount from OTA. At first glance, the place looked nice from the outside. However, first impression went sour since the moment we stepped out of the car as when we (1 mom and 2 children age 13 and 11) arrived, the staff saw us from the lobby but only looked on without offering any help. The stepping stones towards the lobby were uneven and difficult to drag our luggage and we had quite a bit of luggage but no one offered to give us a hand or to say hello. When we arrived, the lady gave us the key and pointed vaguely towards the camps which we didn't know which one was ours. At that point, the staff decided to lend us a hand and helped with the luggage to the room. As there were several keys on the ring and when I asked which ring to use, the lady just shrugged and said, just try them out, one of them would work and only the cleaning lady knew which one to use. I started to give up by then and felt that something was off. From the photos, the 2-room camp looked great but when we entered, the place was quite run down, towels threadbare. The amenities were not all there, we had to request for a bathroom rug. The rooms were also not sound proof as it's a tent, of course, so we got woken up by the sound of people talking rather loudly in the kitchen 15 meters away, sounding as if they were right outside our wall. The children in the next campavan were playing and quite noisy as the whole place was very quiet. Breakfast was so so but dinner we ordered was great. However, little things like napkins and drinks were not offered to us so we ate without drinks or napkins for many meals. I have to say that the staff as a whole was friendly to talk to but they didn't get trained on providing basic hospitality to the guests. Let us say that for this glamping hotel, the owner could pay more attention to the services provided and the current state of things that needed repairing, refilled or replaced. I own 3 listings on AirBnB myself so I know that the first investment doesn't usually last very long as towels and amenities need replacing after a year or two especially if the facilities do not work for you. In this case the towel looked unclean but I suppose that it was the quality of the unfiltered water that rendered the towels grey. The plus side was that in general, the place was quiet and next to a beautiful river. I really liked the atmosphere but it is unfortunate as you can read from this review that we won't be returning to this accommodation again soon.

We had a lovely time at Campster and stayed one night in the camper van. We arrived around 1 pm and got our room at 2 pm (we hadn't notified of our early arrival). We were served welcome drink (refreshing) while we waited by the pool for the room to get ready. The camper van was nice and compact with all basic facilities. The bunk beds can fit kids only. The location is out of the town but it was easy for find a grab. We paid around THB 200 from Death Bridge Railway station for a SUV which is reasonable. The driver offered us his services in case we needed to go around town or back to Bangkok but we had already booked a car for the next day to take us to Erawan in the morning and then to Bangkok in the evening (paid THB 2800 for SUV) whereas he had offered THB 3000. There are limited options for food (especially since we eat halal only). We ordered veg pizza's which were not bad. They also have the ready to make noodles and food price is reasonable. There is unlimited supply of water free of cost. Coffee is not great. You get a drink eggs and toasts for breakfast that can be served in the restaurant or to your room. The area is tidy and they have some activities like campfire (free marshmallows and yakult), swimming pool, playground/ garden, swings, bicycles and kayaks. For an additional cost they also arrange jet ski, standing board, water bike and wet raft. The staff are friendly and helpful but many of them don't speak English. The supervisor is a nice lady and speaks fluent english. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and i would prefer it any day over staying in a regular hotel.
